Alyson Stack- Primary Therapist
Through experiencing adversity, Alyson now uses her own personal insight to help others. Her areas of focus include, addiction, disordered eating, body image issues, developmental trauma, post-treatment structure, mood disorders and self-esteem and empowerment. She currently holds a Master’s of Science in Marriage Family Therapy and dual Bachelor degrees in Broadcast Communications and Spanish. Additionally, she is a Registered Recovery Worker and serves as a volunteer for several professional organizations including, LA-CAMFT and NEDA’s STAR, (States for Treatment and Research), raising awareness on current eating disorder legislation and advocacy efforts. She is also active by providing outreach, educating adolescents about the implications and dangers of drunk driving.
During her undergraduate years at San Francisco State University she spent time abroad in various Spanish-speaking countries in South America as well as Spain. Upon graduation, she worked for the Spanish television network, Univisión in both San Francisco and New York City where she decided to pursue higher education and share her experience with others.
Alyson’s approach to therapy emphasizes a collaboration of psychodynamic and interpersonal psychotherapy, with cognitive-behavioral techniques. Therapy is individually tailored and helps to emphasize an exploration of the client’s issues and relationships. Alyson views all compulsive behaviors as symptoms of a more significant underlying core issue. As such, Alyson focuses not only on reducing behaviors, but also exploring underlying causes which contribute to creating and maintaining these disorders. Behaviors, such as drinking, using, eating, gambling and shopping serve a purpose for the individuals who suffer with them and therefore it is important to give a voice to that purpose.
